In these challenging economic times, I’m always looking for a bargain - especially if there is a way to try multiple bourbons or whiskeys without having to purchase multiple, full-size bottles. A while back, I was given a tri-pack of  whiskeys from Heaven's Door Trilogy. If this isn’t a brand you’ve seen, read on for the rest of the story.

Yes, That Bob Dylan

Work has quietly been taking place in Pleasureville, Kentucky (yep, that is a real town) in Shelby County. The 160 acre property, once owned by Squire Boone (brother of Daniel Boone), is home to Heaven’s Door Distillery. Small batches of whiskey have been produced since 2018 and the distillery is expected to be open to the public later in 2025.

The Master Distiller is Ken Pierce who was instrumental in the development of 1792 Small Batch. The whiskies coming to market have also been produced in collaboration with singer and songwriter Bob Dylan. The bottles are adorned with artwork produced by Dylan.

The Tasting

Our 3-pack of 200ml whiskey bottles (which is a nice size, allowing serious tasting with friends and family) included Revival, Revelation, and Refuge. Here’s our thoughts:

Eye

Lightest in color of the three whiskeys. Amber with thin legs.

Darkest of the three whiskeys. Lacy legs line my tasting glass..

Second darkest with medium legs.

Nose

Sweet with fruit notes of pear and peach drizzled in vanilla and honey.

Vanilla, caramel and butterscotch prevail.

Dark fruit notes of plum and cherry. Spice forward with sweet undertones.

Palate

Vanilla, oak, fruit and brown sugar are balanced with spice.

A rye tingle, laced with vanilla, light spearmint, oak and spice.

True to the nose with sweet fruit, including plum and apricot.

Finish

Drying, with oak and spice balanced with sweeter savory notes.

Sweet with oak and spice.

Fruit and spice with the anticipated sherry note.

Overall

If you’re a fan of bourbon, this Tennessee Whiskey will do in a pinch.

Solid pour here and unique in its double barreling of bourbon and rye whiskey.

While wine-finished barrels aren’t my first reach, I am always amazed at how much I like some of these.

So, the big question - will I make a visit to Heaven’s Door? Would I purchase a large bottle of any of these? Heaven’s Door also produces Ascension - a Kentucky Straight Bourbon - which was not included in this pack. Based on what I tasted from Revival, something tells me I might like that!
