Few names evoke nostalgia quite like John Denver’s 1971 hit single Country Roads. Pair that sentiment with bourbon, and you’ve got a recipe for something truly special. Take Me Home Country Roads 4 Lane Bourbon is more than just a whiskey—it’s a tribute to Appalachian heritage, craftsmanship, and the open road.

A Journey in Every Sip
Inspired by the iconic song that celebrates the beauty of West Virginia and the Appalachian spirit, 4 Lane Bourbon aims to capture that same sense of freedom and authenticity. The name “4 Lane” nods to the highways that connect small towns and big dreams, making this bourbon a symbol of journeys—both literal and personal.
The bourbon is produced by Bardstown Bourbon Company for Country Roads Spirits. Not much else is disclosed, other than it is a four-year Kentucky straight bourbon with a wheated mash bill, bottled at 90 proof.
The Tasting
Eye: Amber
Nose: Sweet vanilla and light oak, with grains, pear, apricot, and subtle herbal tea notes.
Palate: A smooth wave of sweet vanilla and honey with a thin mouthfeel, balanced with cinnamon spice that is balanced and pleasing.
Finish: Medium with sweet vanilla followed by toasted oak and spice leading to a dry finish.
Overall: This was fine, if uninspiring, bourbon. At $40, this isn’t a Weller 10-Year, I appreciated the Bardstown Bourbon Company disclosure, so I recognize the quality going into the distillation and aging. With a price similar to some of Bardstown’s Origin series, including their own wheated product, Country Roads faces some serious headwinds, especially as these add a couple of extra years of maturation.
